Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Serdang, Malaysia

is a Malaysian premier university and one of the five elite research universities in the country. Since its humble beginnings as a school of agriculture in 1931, and particularly from 1971 when it was formally renamed Universiti Putra Malaysia, UPM has grown into a multi-disciplinary university with a distinctive niche in agriculture. It has a current undergraduate and post-graduate student population of about 30,000, with foreign students from more than 60 countries making up about 10%.

Besides the academic faculties that range from agriculture to forestry, engineering, computer science, human ecology and food technology, UPM also offers programmes in the social sciences, the pure sciences, medicine and public health, economics as well as architecture and design. Additionally, the School of Graduate Studies offers post-graduate programmes across various disciplines while the AACSB-accreditated Putra Business School (formerly Graduate School of Management or GSM) is a highly-regarded and successful school of business and management.

UPM is a national and regional leader in research and in the collaborative commercialisation of research outcomes. The university's researchers (both staff and students) have been consistently winning top awards at local and international invention competitions. Besides the main campus in Serdang to the south of Kuala Lumpur, UPM has a branch campus in Bintulu in the east Malaysian state of Sarawak.
